  • Saturday January 19,2008. Fernie Golf Course - Report by Patrick Burke
I would like to thank the groomers for providing exceptional trail grooming. To say that the back country trail was good is a understatement. It was amazing and everyone I say on the trail had nothing but complements to the Fernie Nordic Society. There was 2 classic tracks with a skate skiing area in the middle.

  • Saturday April 21,2007 Island Lake Trail Report by Patrick Burke
This is probably my last day of the season. Trails were still firm however counditions could have been better but still a lot of fun. Today I accomplished my season goal to make it to the old growth forest. I am a novice skier and not in the best shape so for some that might seem like much but for me it was a great season ender. You can still ski on the trails probably for another week. Hope to go again tomorrow. Happy Skiing!

Trails at Island Lake still in good shape. Had a great afternoon. Made it to the Old Growth Forest signs. If I can do it so can you. The trails are mostly gentle up and down so you don't pick up much speed but have a lot of fun. Happy Skiing!

I was really surprised with the amount of snow on the Island Lake trails. The trails were well groomed and was a nice day to go ski. We made it all the way up to the Old Growth Forest Signs and couldn't quite make it to the old Cedars. Well maybe another day. I really enjoyed the day and by the condition of the snow we should have skiing for a few more weeks. Happy skiing!

  • Saturday March 17,2007 Fernie Nordic Society Potluck by Patrick Burke
The evening was well attended by over 30 people. The potluck dishs were about as good as it gets, the best grub in town. We had a award presentation with booing, hissing and cheers. We had Irish jokes until we couldn't take any more. We sang, had a great time and enjoyed a evening irish music.

Doug was out and groomed the Golf Course (classic & skating) , Rodeo Grounds (classic) and the Backcountry trail (classic double lane). Great job Doug, I enjoyed every bit of it. Photos show my journey along North 40 to Rodeo Grounds (Jimcana), then out on the Backcountry Trail, returning on along Ray's Way and finally The Way back to the Club House. What a amazing day!

  • Friday March 2, 2007 Fernie Nordic Society enters float in Griz Day Parade It was fun and a party atmosphere at the Fernie Griz Day Parade. The Fernie Nordic Society float was stuck in the middle of two rocking floats Backcountry and NonStopSkiing and couldn't help making our groomers rock and roll. Everyone seemed to enjoy our presents. On the float is Bill Armstrong, Barbara and Len Kosiec, Jo Anne Burke. Patrick Burke was driving through the crouds downtown Fernie.

The Backcountry 5km trail is located along the dyke side of the golf course and goes North along the river. For those that are directionally challanged like myself in Fernie it is away from the Hwy3 Bridge. Happy Skiing. Again, thanks to Doug and Ray for the new trail.
